Biography

Pat Verschoore was appointed to fill the seat of former State Representative Joel Brunsvold on March 29, 2003 and is serving his third term as State Representative for the 72nd District, which includes parts of the Quad Cities and rural Rock Island and Mercer Counties. Like the Quad Cities themselves, the Verschoore family is rooted in the rich agricultural land that surrounds the area, land they have farmed for over 100 years.

Pat Verschoore was born to Arthur and Loretta Verschoore on November 30, 1943 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois. The youngest of seven children, Verschoore graduated from Alleman High School in Rock Island in 1961. He married his wife Charlene in 1964, and, after a five year apprenticeship with the Plumbers & Pipefitters, Verschoore earned his plumber's license with Local #25 in 1970.

By 1972, Verschoore had earned a reputation in the labor community as a fighter for workers' rights and was elected President of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #25. He later served as the local's Business Manager/Financial Secretary and Fund Administrator for the Pension, Health & Welfare Fund. Verschoore retired from the union in 2000.

While serving as Financial Secretary, Verschoore became both a regional and statewide leader as well, serving as a trustee on the Tri-City Building Trades Council and also a vice president of the Illinois Pipetrades Association. Verschoore also served as a director of the Illowa Labor/Management Council, whose purpose is to promote union construction through a project labor agreement known as IMPACT.

Verschoore was inducted into the Eastern Iowa/Northwestern Illinois AFL-CIO Hall of Fame in 2000, and 2002 he was honored as Grand Marshall of East Moline's Labor Day parade.

Verschoore's leadership is not limited to the labor movement. He served as a Trustee for Bowling Township from 2001 until 2003 and is a previous Bowling Township Precinct Committeeman. Verschoore currently works as a Business Development Director at Quad City Bank & Trust.

Verschoore's legislative agenda reflects his values as a lifelong resident of the Quad Cities area. Having raised his own family, Verschoore's top priority is to make sure that working families get the opportunities they deserve, and that means promoting economic development to create good-paying jobs with good benefits in the Quad Cities. Before being sworn in as State Representative himself, Verschoore worked closely with former State Representative Joel Brunsvold on a number of issues, including labor and business initiatives for the Quad Cities and the local area.

As a father and the husband of a retired teacher, Pat Verschoore understands that a quality education is the foundation for a prosperous future. Verschoore knows that good schools need to have the resources to provide modern textbooks and attract well-trained and committed instructors. He believes we must also demand the best of our students, teachers and administrators.

Verschoore's commitment to the community includes volunteer work for: Habitat for Humanity; the Boys & Girls Club; Gilda's Club, and Building for Kids, Hearts & Hammers. He is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Pat and Charlene Verschoore currently live in Milan and attend St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Andalusia. They have one son, married, and three granddaughters.
